Abstract
This talk will consider trends in gender inequality from 1970 to 2018 on multiple indicators: employment, education, fields of study, occupation, and wages.  It will show that there has been dramatic progress toward gender equality, but, in recent decades, change has slowed, and, on some indicators, stalled entirely. The slowdown on some indicators and stall on others suggests that further progress requires substantial institutional and cultural change. The analysis draws upon data from the United States, but will make a few comparisons to situations in Europe.
